This summer marks the 2-Year Anniversary of the Center. To celebrate the amazing accomplishments of The Columbia IBM Center for Blockchain and Data Transparency, we will be hosting:

The Columbia IBM Center for Blockchain and Data Transparency Showcase

The Center will be hosting four sessions. Each session will include lightning talks followed by a live Q&A on the topics of:

  1. Building incentives for data transparency and blockchains – September 10, 12pm
  2. Systems Implementation for Technology - September 17, 12pm
  3. Economics, Policy, Privacy & Ethics - September 24, 12pm
  4. Supply Chains - October 1, 12pm

The sessions will feature research from Columbia faculty, blockchain and data transparency focused curriculum, speakers from IBM, and pitches from Columbia-IBM Launch Accelerator teams. You will have the opportunity to engage with our presenters throughout the sessions.

Session 1: Building incentives for data transparency and blockchains

In this session researchers will discuss the role of incentives in blockchains and the design space of reward mechanisms for both the Proof-of-Work and Proof-of-Stack frameworks, to explore incentive compatibility of blockchain protocols, and to identify tasks that are achievable in permissioned blockchains but formally impossible to carry out in permissionless blockchains.

In addition, we will explore work that applies behavioral science, and in particular research on choice architecture, to encourage adoption of contact tracing applications while preserving user privacy and autonomy.
